We hardly ever make grocery lists here; for the simple reason that my love hates all lists, any shape or size, and that I much rather would go to the supermarket and buy whatever looks fresh and good. This behaviour resulted in the purchase of garlic by both me and my love so therefore there are now seven (!) bulbs of garlic in our cupboard. Indeed, a bit much, and a waste also, for this pile of garlic would certainly never be consumed if it wasn't for the inspiration that is Kees Raat. He made a garlic chocolate by boiling cloves of garlic in a simple sugar syrup, three times over, before covering the cloves in milk chocolate. I decided I would follow his lead and make: garlic chip cookies with this candied garlic!!

So, for the syrup you just dissolve 50g of sugar (¼ cup) in 100ml water (a little under ½ cup), which is done fast enough. Ten to fifteen garlic cloves, skins peeled, are put in this syrup and brought to a boil. As soon as the syrup starts boiling, remove the pan from the stove. Let its whole content cool completely (so leave the garlic ín the syrup). This is sufficient for candying the cloves, but you can repeat the process again if you don't like a noticable garlicy taste: boiling the syrup and cloves a second time and letting it cool down again. The candied garlic is edible like this and can also be used as a condiment, a snack, whatever.
For the cookie dough I used a basic recipe for chocolate chip cookies (and had some frustrations over 'cups' vs. 'grams') and added ten chopped candied cloves of garlic and about half a cup of milk chocolate chips alongside some chopped nuts. The dough in itself was good, but once the cookies were baked and the house was filled with that beautiful smell I found there were certain degrees of taste that came with this cookie novelty: crunchy gewy cookie dough with a definete hit of tasty chocolate and a bit of vanilla on the side. And then garlic kicked in, but if you didn't know the cookies had garlic in them, you would NEVER recognise it. I díd know and I díd taste the garlic. It is sweet but als savory and oddly, not in a bad way. I actually think these strange cookies are pretty darn good. A strange combination that works really well!! That is except for my mouth odor. I guess there will be no kissing tonight... Better have my love eat some cookies too...

This sounds great! I'd love to try the recipe. The combination of chocolate and garlic isn't so very strange after all if you look at it from a chemical perspective. Take a look at this link for more info on the combination of chocolate and garlic (plus coffee!):
